ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration at the University of Hawaii-West Oahu (UHWO) provides students with a multidisciplinary approach to the study of Public Administration. With exposure to several areas of study, students are well prepared to enter professional fields or future study in advanced degree programs. Students learn valuable skills that they can apply to advance themselves in their chosen fields and enjoy greater career mobility. Students can pursue concentrations in General Public Administration, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, Health Care Administration, Community Health, Justice Administration, and Long-Term Care. In addition, we offer Certificates in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, Health Care Administration and Long-Term Care. We offer our programs through traditional, hybrid and distance education modalities. The concentration in Health Care Administration provides students with a broad range of administrative skills and knowledge needed in the dynamic and growing health care field. For those already employed in the field, this program provides the opportunity to more fully develop management, legal, and behavioral skills for more effective job performance and greater career mobility. All students in the program are required to complete an applied internship or a senior research project as a part of their graduation requirements. The experience provides students with the opportunity to apply what they have learned in real world settings. UHWO students have successfully completed internships or obtained jobs at a number of organizations including these internship sites.
